The Importance of Source Code Control in Custom Systems Integration Projects
Mitigating the risks of a catastrophic loss of critical software and
capturing the knowledge of how to install and maintain it can be accomplished
through Revision Control (also known as Version Control). Source
code and related documentation are retained in a permanent
repository. The selection of a version control system must be
compatible with the organization's computing infrastructure and
its backup/restore strategy. It must be convenient to use. Practical
guidelines for choosing a source code control system along with
an example of a successful implementation are provided.
